About Morris Therapy and Consulting
Many people come to therapy because they are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or something just isn’t working. Maybe you know something doesn’t feel “quite right” but you can’t exactly pinpoint it. You may find yourself wanting to make changes, but you don’t know how or where to begin. I’ve worked with many people who are feeling the exact same way and will help you find a path forward.
What to expect Working With Me
Clients consistently tell me how free they feel when they are no longer carrying the guilt, anxiety, and self-blame that has weighed them down for years. As much as that feels impossible right now, I’m here to tell you that hope and recovery are within reach. My hope for clients is that they are able to expand their world and regain a sense of power and control in their lives. I apply scientifically-based techniques to help people make meaning of their suffering and take steps towards the things that are most important to them. One of the most rewarding parts of therapy is helping people to reach their goals and see tangible, concrete changes in their life and relationships.
It is not uncommon for colleagues and clients of mine to joke about my hopeful outlook, sense of humor, encouraging demeanor and ability to both sit with individuals in their pain while also helping them to see a path forward. My style is often described as calm, compassionate, and genuine in providing specific feedback to help you reach your goals.
Education and Credentials
As a graduate with a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of South Dakota, I am passionate about working with individuals in high pressure careers and those dealing with stress and trauma. While completing an APA-accredited internship at the Bay Pines VA Medical Center in St. Petersburg, Florida, I obtained specialized training in anxiety and trauma and helped individuals in outpatient and residential treatment settings.
After completing the doctoral internship, I completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at Hennepin Healthcare working with individuals impacted by intense stress, cumulative trauma, and high pressure careers. I’ve also worked in several large VA Medical Centers, obtaining the most up-to-date evidence-based trainings.
I have served as a strong advocate on several boards, including the Minnesota Psychological Association Executive Committee, Board of Directors of the Society of Clinical Psychology of the American Psychological Association, and the Early Career Psychologist and Graduate Student Representative to the Board of Directors.
